A Nanny is a childcare professional who cares for children in their own home. Nannies specialise in this kind of at-home care and know how to appropriately support children’s development and wellbeing in this environment. Candidates at International Nanny Ltd will have previous childcare experience and/or hold an early years or childcare qualification.
DBS stands for the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The check is to ensure that a potential employee does not have any criminal convictions that would exclude them from working with children. All candidates registering and applying with International Nanny will be required to have a valid DBS Disclosure or country specific police check.
Candidates from International Nanny will be asked to provide at least two references and their contact details so we can email and call the references to verify their authenticity. References should always be recent and up to date, and typically these will be the candidates’ last 2 employers.
International Nanny places nannies of all different nationalities. We place native English speakers as well as bilingual candidates (French, Spanish, etc.) or native in other languages. Whereas it is not always compulsory, an advanced level of English is usually requested.
As the name suggests, International Nanny, is able to provide nannies internationally. We will place nannies worldwide, as long as the nanny is legally able to work in the employer’s destination, and the employer is providing a job that is fair, legal and safe and a competitive salary.
Each of our vacancies have detailed job descriptions, so families are able to specify how much experience and what kind of qualifications they want their nannies to have. Most of the vacancies we offer require a childcare or teaching qualification, at least 2-3 years experience working as a nanny and a first aid certificate.
We invite all applicants who meet a vacancy’s specific criteria for a first online interview with us, during which we go over the CV uploaded to apply and ask more in-depth questions to better gauge the experience, qualifications, career aspirations, salary expectations, as well as skills and competencies We tend to look for career and professional nannies who see nannying (or working as a governess or maternity nurse) as a long term profession and check in detail the nanny’s skills and experience as well as the levels of commitment, interest, and personality so that we can find a good match.
As part of the selection process, we request nannies to provide a DBS ( or country specific equivalent) and check their qualifications.
At the same time, we also speak to the references to confirm the nanny’s employment history and performance. References also give us insightful information about the nanny’s personality traits.
The salary of a nanny varies depending on the location and type of contract. We work with employers to ensure that the salary they offer is fair for their requirements. Moreover, there are nannies at the beginning of their career and there are highly experienced and accomplished career nannies with a proven track record in this field. Hence, the salaries also range according to qualifications and experience. In general, a full time nanny generally earns between £700-£1500 per week or 12-25 GBP per hour.
A live-in governess earns between £1200 – £1500 per week on average, depending on age, experience and qualifications. A maternity nurse expects to earn £280 -£600 per 24 hours care. (2022)
Yes, we have the international nanny institute, which you can access via: https://www.international-nanny.institute, where we have online programmes in English that can help nannies to upskill. Our main programmes are CPD and/or OCN London accredited. This means that our training is recognised by two highly-regarded accreditation bodies.
There is no one size fits all approach to providing accommodation; what is deemed acceptable will vary depending on several different factors. Our advice is that employers should provide details of exactly what is provided for the Nannies’ private use, so that candidates can apply to the position and agree to the live-in arrangement with a clear understanding of what to expect.
The main consideration in providing accommodation for a live-in Nanny is whether the arrangements will provide adequate levels of rest and privacy for everyone.
As a minimum all live-in Nannies will require a private bedroom, however it is typical for live-in Nannies to have both a private bedroom and bathroom.
Some live-in Nannies will live in a guest house on the employer’s property or a self-contained apartment within the family home. It’s not unusual for a family who need a dedicated nanny to rent a flat close to the family home for their Nanny to live in.
For a live-in nanny all meals should be included, both when the nanny is on-duty and when they are not. This can be managed in several different ways and should be discussed between the nanny and the family upon taking up the post.
Many families manage the arrangement by asking the Nanny if there are any special items they want to be included on their shopping list. In other families it is the Nanny who does the family’s food shopping, so they are able to buy any items they may want whilst shopping. Sometimes, parents will provide the Nanny with a weekly food allowance and the Nanny takes care of their own shopping independent of the family.
Before offering a permanent contract it is quite normal to offer a nanny a trial, this could be for a few hours or a few days depending on the clients needs and the nanny’s availability. The trial period should be agreed in advance, the nanny should be paid for any time they work during a trial and the potential employer should also expect to cover travel costs.
International Nanny Agency can assist you in securing a nanny by providing you with a template employment contract and advising you on typical terms and clauses within nanny contracts. Ultimately, the employment contract should be negotiated and agreed upon by the employer and employee.
The International Nanny website is supported by the latest versions of all well-known browsers, but it runs best on Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. If you are experiencing difficulty accessing the website, try using Google Chrome as your web browser or refreshing the page.
Additionally, try using a laptop or computer instead of a mobile phone or tablet. Sometimes, this helps.
